GNINA (Œil)
‘GNINA’ (eye) is a duo by Bertrand Djina Sanou and Joël Gafien Sanon.
“In this duo, we dance with these scattered fragments of ourselves — they slide, unfold, collide and reinvent themselves. These flaws become windows opening onto unexpected landscapes, secret passages where energy mingles with shadow and light. Each hesitation is a breeze that blows a new rhythm, each clumsiness a bridge to another dimension. We cultivate the mystery of imperfect movement, where randomness and imbalance create a poetic, vibrant and wild language. But these flashes do not remain locked within us: they strike, resonate and transform the world around us. Our imperfections become tremors, waves that crack certainties, awaken sleepers and open unexpected paths. They shake rigid walls, disrupt established orders and invite us to another way of being, freer and more authentic.
This journey is a voyage into the heart of an inner cosmos, where our fragilities dance and burst into a symphony of the unexpected, revealing the mysterious beauty of a world that is constantly being recomposed under the impact of our transfigured flaws.”
This creation was produced as part of Don Sen Folo’s (Mali) ‘Corps pour XXIIe siècle – IV’ initiation, under the direction of Lassina KONE for the ‘Fila Ni Kélé – Bamako’ programme in October 2025.
