Amore Eterno
Amore Eterno is a four-part film project by Karim Zeriahen.
Four films, each featuring a different dancer, unfolding at a different moment of the day, in a different season, and linked to one of the four elements.
Each chapter reflects, in an allegorical and poetic way, the workings of time on humanity and on nature.
Each film is conceived as a danced fiction.
The only common thread running through all these episodes is their setting: the Palazzo al Bosco, the central character, a place of passage, of encounters, of exchanges. A place where stories and moments of life have been written over the centuries, now being restored with meticulous care, faithful to its original conception, yet with a keen eye turned toward contemporary creation.
This multifaceted setting makes it possible to weave clues from one film to another, like a vast playground that plays with the Lacanian double meaning of the word demeure (“dwelling” / “to remain”).
Each episode develops its own atmosphere, carried by original music composed and performed by a different artist, each one highlighting a distinct musical instrument.
The singularity of each story, the setting, and the narrative arc are prepared beforehand, while the choreography is created on site, in situ, with the performer, following shared and spontaneous inspirations.
The project is freely inspired by Nicolas Poussin’s Four Seasons, created near the end of his life, a philosophical representation of the cycle of existence.
Each painting is an elegiac landscape depicting scenes from the Old Testament alongside a season; within them, references to the four phases of the day, the four ages of life, and the four elements have been discerned.
The idea of exploring the specificity of the seasons evokes a world slowly disappearing, giving way to the desire for a solar renewal, carried by hope and grace.
These seasons, once clearly marked in our childhood, now blur into one another in an increasingly warm climate, accompanied by the resurgence of extreme events, nature erupting and rebelling. We have become direct witnesses of this great upheaval.
At the heart of the project lies, above all, the evocation of the traces of a love story, a steadfast love that defies death and withstands the erosion of time.
An infinite love, written in many forms over time and in this particular place, a love that transcends earthly life.
