Hommage à Isadora Duncan au Musée Bourdelle
Carolyn Carlson & Elisabeth Schwartz
Filmed on March 8, 2003 at the Bourdelle Museum, Paris.
“If my art is symbolic
of any one thing,
It is symbolic of the freedom of woman,
And her emancipation
Of the hidebound conventions… ”
Isadora Duncan
On Women’s Day, March 8, 2003, dancer and choreographer Carolyn Carlson improvised a tribute at the Bourdelle Museum to the great dancer Isadora Duncan, who inspired Antoine Bourdelle in his bas-reliefs and frescoes at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Elisabeth Schwartz, an Isadorian dancer, sketched out a journey through the museum.
“All my muses,” said the sculptor, “are gestures taken during the flight of Isadora Duncan”.
A round table discussion was also held on the theme of “Women, Sculpture, and Dance” with Carolyn Carlson and Elisabeth Schwartz, moderated by Annette Mattox, dancer and sculptor.
