Breathisdancing
Breathisdancing is a response to a commission from La Pop, a venue dedicated to staged music in Paris: what would an “augmented recital” be like?
The proposal focuses on breath as a trigger for sounds, movements, affects, and emotions. Three breath-instrumentalists meet and work from musical, temporal, and physical constraints set by Alban Richard, with the sole objective of constantly generating sound and movement. To generate is to produce something, to have it as an inevitable consequence, to engender it, to be its source.
It is the attention of the three performers to the creation of this sound sculpture that determines the possibilities of movement in the moment. Together, they accumulate their productions to create a spectral mass of music, an imaginary landscape. Constantly changing, this magma of textures, qualities, and rhythms forces the viewer to construct new reference points or lose themselves in this hybrid soundscape.
