In 1947, Françoise Sullivan came into contact for the first time with the music and dance of the black neighborhoods of Harlem in New York. At the time, she choreographed Black and Tan, set to music by Duke Ellington.
Black and Tan is part of “Etcetera… A Chronicle of Dance as Seen by Andrea Sitter,” a collection of dance excerpts recounting the great choreographies of the 20th century.
