Barrel House Blues - Rehearsal
Rehearsal images from the show ‘Barrel House Blues’ by Katherine Duham, reprised by the choreographer James Carlès.
A lonely old woman enters a bar in Chicago, meets a young man, and fantasizes. Slowly seducing each other, their bodies draw closer, pelvis against pelvis, bumping together… One of the first vernacular artistic fusions, combining ideas and modern dance, Barrel House Blues was a shock at the time—and above all a driving force that delighted audiences and baffled critics.
