Compagnie Ti Art (Paris, Île-de-France)
Under the direction of Sophie Brun, the Paris-based Ti Art association aims to promote and teach knowledge and traditions to safeguard cultural heritage. In this context, the group of amateur dancers founded in 2019 has set itself the mission of promoting Baroque dance. Comprising around fifteen members, the troupe offers workshops devoted to ancient dances, as well as performances accompanied by young musicians from the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris. In this context, the desire to tackle Francine Lancelot’s Atys presented itself as a new artistic challenge.
The project
By choosing Lully’s Atys, remodelled in 1987 by Francine Lancelot, the Ti Art association is highlighting the beauty of Lully’s music, whose arias are sung at, while interpreting Francine Lancelot’s rarely-seen dances. Following a reworking of the choreography in the historical style of the Beauchamp-Feuillet period, the six amateur dancers taking part in this project are based on the 1987 performance of the piece at the Opéra-Comique. They benefit from the teaching and transmission of Ana Yepes, the original performer, and also intend to pay tribute to Francine Lancelot and her impressive work on the revival of Baroque dance.
Danse en amateur et répertoire is a program of financial support and coaching for groups of amateur dancers. It provides a space for those wishing to deepen their knowledge and practice of dance and its history.
