T-Wall
“T-Wall” – taken from the name given to the T-shaped concrete blocks used for erecting artificial borders – proposes a study on areas of tension.
The work’s starting point is a reflexion on unique spaces that are governed by their own rules, that reveal our innermost impulses. Just like the forbidden and unknown zone in Andrei Tarkovski’s film “Stalker”, probably hit by an atomic bomb or a meteorite, these uncontrollable spaces are loaded with noxious particles and spectres of imminent violence.
These areas exist, reflected in the forbidden zone around Chernobyl, the Korean DMZ (the demilitarized zone of the 38th parallel) and any other area where there are controversial borders.
Emmanuel Eggermont encounters these places of heightened tension and gives a lot greater attention to the sensation they arouse rather than to their signification. In what way do the energies that exist in these spaces and those released by the other elements impact our reactions and feelings?
The choreographic work is a piece of work on emptiness that slowly but surely unveils the form and the movement, like a photographic proof immersed in its developing bath.
