This solo, conceived by Asadata Dafora, is one of the first compositions on the Western stage to fuse modern dance and African movements. Asadata Dafora, who immigrated to the United States in 1929, presents her choreographic vision of traditional African dance staged according to the canons of Western dance. The dancer transforms into a majestic, powerful bird.
