“Dancers are sensors of reality; they grasp a part of the world and translate it into their bodies and through their dances. Since I started dancing all those years ago, I have never stopped observing dancers (myself included) and trying to understand their mechanisms of perception, their approaches, and their incredible mimetic abilities.

The project revolves around what the dancers in this company possess, namely a large repertoire and therefore a personal heritage that is their world but also their view of the history of dance. At the Ballet de Lorraine, some dancers have performed more than fifty roles in mostly contemporary pieces.

The repertoire, their repertoire, is part of their history as performers and is an incredible asset. It is therefore around this material that I have conceived and structured this creation.

How much subjectivity do they bring to this broad spectrum of repertoire? What do dancers tell themselves when they dance a piece from the repertoire for the umpteenth time? We need to get inside the dancers’ heads and imaginations.

We need to read in their bodies this incredible journey of dance poetics. This creation is a tribute to dancers, to their strength and their creative power.”
