The group
Compagnie Jeunes Danseurs (Toulouse, Occitanie)
They are between 15 and 18 years old, in high school or university, and come together under the guidance of choreographer Sara Ducat to develop their mutual taste for contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and classical dance. Beyond technique, these 10 inquisitive and fervent young performers take part in creative and improvisational projects and workshops, as well as acrobatics courses, while regularly practicing singing and acting. The group, founded in 2013, has already performed as part of Danse en amateur and répertoire en 2022 with a project based on Maguy Marin’s Waterzooï. They rehearse in a dance studio provided by the town of Fenouillet.
The project
Among Thomas Lebrun’s various pieces, the group wanted to dive into Les rois de la piste, created in 2016. Its funkiness, its show and cabaret flavor, set to disco and house music by Cher, Corona and Gloria Gaynor, won the young performers over. Through this performative experience, they want to question self-representation, delve into theatricality and explore the reverse side of seduction and caricature, in order to develop their creative potential. Three sequences will explore these themes in solos, duets and ensembles. All in sequined costumes, under the direction of dancer and choreographer Yohan Têté, who has worked with Thomas Lebrun for the past 10 years, and took part in the creation of Les rois de la piste.
Danse en amateur et répertoire is a program of financial support and coaching for groups of amateur dancers. It provides a space for those wishing to deepen their knowledge and practice of dance and its history.
