Le Surréalisme au service de la Révolution

Marcos Morau wants to represent the world around him as a reflection of his own inner universe with his Barcelona-based collective La Veronal, which brings together artists from the worlds of dance, cinema, photography, and literature. In ten years, he has become one of the most prominent artists on the European choreographic scene, receiving in 2013 the National Prize for Best Spanish Choreographer.

For this creation, Marcos Morau wishes to draw inspiration from surrealist artists, particularly Luis Buñuel. His dreamlike world, his critical and political thinking, his cultural environment, and his passion for the drum, an instrument very present in the folklore of his native region of Bajo Aragón, is a source of inspiration for this piece. According to Marcos Morau, the drum should be heard as an act of collective practice, a form of communication system where diversity becomes community, an instrument which, as Buñuel evokes, “shakes the ground beneath our feet” and can become the phenomenon that brings about revolution.
