A contemporary vision of the legendary Le spectre de la rose.

“This is the mise en abîme of an image so compelling it results in obsession. I want to suggest, not without humour, an intense and tormented inner journey, stimulated and even struck by memory, by image. In order to steal from time and history a project that belongs too clearly to them, I wanted, in addition to the purely choreographic and plastic reinterpretation, for the score to be completely rewritten based on the themes of the original, with a burlesque allusion to film music. The original version thus becomes its own memory: another mise en abîme. Memory and desire are the primary driving forces behind this ‘adventure’.

The scenography is a reduction of the original proposal, and this room where dreams will penetrate is also the antechamber of the imagination, that inner space, deep within memory. All that remains of this room, suggested by lines of light, is the idea of volume and space, an open box (Pandora’s?) where memories and desires flow and are exhausted. All that remains of the window that introduces the specter, the gateway to the beyond, is the white rectangle of the screen. On this blank space, we see metaphorical reminiscences piercing and blossoming, composing a parallel poetry. The window as a screen, an interface between the visible and the unconscious, an illusion where a virtual universe is composed, instantaneous and temporary.

This version offers both a sketch and an extension of the original work, glazed with a more abstract contemporaneity.”
