The Rite of Spring – The chosen one’s solo

“This solo by the Chosen One is the ultimate moment in the Rite of Spring, the dance of a human sacrifice. This dance is in some respect the cry of revolt of someone who will be murdered: the Chosen One gives what she does not have but what the community takes from her to survive. However, it is also an obscure call to life, launched to oppose the darkness that embraces us. The gestures making up this solo have been treated in a new invention based on the drawings and comments of 1913 and, in particular, those of Valentine Hugo and Jacques Rivière. It was written with and for Julie Salgues, and entrusted tonight to the interpretation of Sylvain Prunenec.”
