For her creation for the Ballet de Lorraine, Ingun Bjornsgaard drew inspiration from the play “Hedda Gabler” by the famous Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen.

This legendary bourgeois drama from 1890 features Hedda, an unhappy and destructive woman. Hedda identifies with heroic masculinity and despises ridicule and baseness—which have no place in this era of emerging feminist demands.

A fascinating tragedian, she both contradicts and resonates with our melancholic era and our ambivalent desire for passion and drama.

Ingun Bjornsgaard allows herself to be carried away by the original text while maintaining a certain distance. She offers a free adaptation for 16 dancers that reveals the complexity and sensuality of a tortured woman in search of herself: an androgynous fury on antidepressants.
