Gaffe

Year of production
2009

Gaffe is a film shot for a competition in 2009. It received the Susan Braun Award from the New York Dance Films Association (the oldest dance film festival in the world, with over 40 years of history!). This film was also selected and screened at the following festivals: Signes de Nuit (Paris), Frameworks (New York), Festival de Vidéo Danse: DansCamDanse (Belgium), International Video Dance Festival (Chile), ARTE TV (Chile), Jumping Frames Dance Video Festival (Hong Kong), Institut Français de Beijing (China), Pan Museum (Naples), In-Difference Video Festival (Belgrade), Wallpaper Dance Video Dance Festival (Trieste), U-Move Video Dance Festival (New York), Glass Museum (Washington), etc.

“For this competition, the task was to shoot a dance film over a weekend that was related to current events. We chose to focus on NASA’s accidental deletion of the video tapes of man’s first steps on the moon, a monumental “blunder” (“gaffe“) that is likely to reignite all the conspiracy theories surrounding this incredible event (we don’t claim to match Stanley Kubrick in this new version!). The idea was to give a dance-like quality to the movements of our astronaut in zero gravity, while multiplying the “blunders,” particularly in terms of the soundtrack. Symbolically speaking, we also thought it would be interesting if our first man on the moon were actually… a woman! ”
