Université du mouvement – Répertoire (Biarritz, Nouvelle-Aquitaine)
Founded in 2018, the Université du mouvement – Répertoire group of amateur dancers is supported by the Biarritz-based association Instant Présent.
The troupe’s leader, Aureline Guillot, regularly collaborates with Malandain Ballet Biarritz, where she gives thematic workshops on the classical and neo-classical repertoire. She gathers around her some fifteen performers from a variety of backgrounds for regular creations with choreographer Gilles Schamber, as well as with young artists.
The proximity to Thierry Malandain’s work inspired the group, most of whom have classical dance training, to take an in-depth look at one of his pieces.
Le projet
From Thierry Malandain’s imposing repertoire, the group chose Estro, to immerse themselves in Malandain’s writing. Created in 2014 around the themes of desire, surpassing oneself and the efforts required to reach what is considered a summit, Estro is among the choreographer’s little-known works. A 13-minute excerpt from the 35-minute piece was chosen for transmission by dancer Hugo Layer of Malandain Ballet Biarritz. A long-time partner of the artist, he provides an insight into Thierry Malandain’s world through Estro. Set to music by Vivaldi, five tableaux are performed using lanterns – actually paint pots used by Malandain’s dancers during rehearsals – and the presence of a puppet at the heart of the show.
Danse en amateur et répertoire is a program of financial support and coaching for groups of amateur dancers. It provides a space for those wishing to deepen their knowledge and practice of dance and its history.
